Basic Cybersecurity Principles

There are some basic principles when it comes to cybersecurity, that will help you have a clearer understanding about how to defend and protect yourself online. The CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability) is a key aspect of cybersecurity.

Confidentiality means that information should not be accessible to unauthorized individuals (remember from Lesson #1 when we talked about authorization? We give people certain privileges and restrict certain things)- whatever information needs to remain private/classified, should only be accessible to those who are authorized to see it.

Ex. Your friends or even certain family members cannot view (and do not know) your password to your gradebook.

Integrity is similar to confidentiality, but it deals with the data itself- data should not be unnecessarily modified or tampered with, and should be accurate.

Ex. Grades in a school system are not changed by unauthorized people.
